A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Coppermine Photo Gallery up to 1.4.3 (Photo Gallery Software). This issue affects an unknown functionality of the file init.inc.php. The manipulation of the argument lang with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in init.inc.php in Coppermine Photo Gallery 1.4.3 and earlier allows remote attackers to include arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) sequence and trailing NULL (%00) byte in the lang parameter.
The bug was discovered 02/17/2006. The weakness was presented 02/24/2006 by rgod (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at coppermine-gallery.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-0872 since 02/24/2006. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely.
