Details
A vulnerability was found in GNU Samba (File Transfer Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects the function sprintf of the file afsacl.so of the component VFS Plugin. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a infinite loop vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-835. The product contains an iteration or loop with an exit condition that cannot be reached, i.e., an infinite loop. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
smbd in Samba 3.0.6 through 3.0.23d allows remote authenticated users to cause a denial of service (memory and CPU exhaustion) by renaming a file in a way that prevents a request from being removed from the deferred open queue, which triggers an infinite loop.
The weakness was presented 02/06/2007 by Mateusz Jurczyk and Gynvael Coldwind (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at us1.samba.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-0452 since 01/23/2007. The attack may be initiated remotely. The requirement for exploitation is a simple authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1499 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at samba.org.
