A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Microsoft Windows (Operating System) (version now known). This affects some unknown processing of the component HTML Help ActiveX Control. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The HTML Help ActiveX control (Hhctrl.ocx) in Microsoft Windows 2000 SP3, XP SP2 and Professional, 2003 SP1 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via unspecified functions, related to uninitialized parameters.
The bug was discovered 02/13/2007. The weakness was published 02/13/2007 by H. D. Moore with MetaSploit as MS07-008 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2007-0214 since 01/12/2007. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
