A vulnerability classified as very critical was found in Mambo (Content Management System). This vulnerability affects the function showcategory of the file content.php. The manipulation of the argument username with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
SQL injection vulnerability in Mambo 4.5.3, 4.5.3h, and possibly earlier versions allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via (1) the $username variable in the mosGetParam function and (2) the $task parameter in the mosMenuCheck function in (a) includes/mambo.php; and (3) the $filter variable to the showCategory function in the com_content component (content.php).
The weakness was shared 02/22/2006 by James Bercegay (Website). The advisory is available at gulftech.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-1794 since 04/17/2006. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 07/08/2021). This vulnerability is assigned to T1505 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
