A vulnerability was found in EMC Retrospect 6.5/7.0/7.5. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. EMC Retrospect for Windows 6.5 before 6.5.382, 7.0 before 7.0.344, and 7.5 before 7.5.1.105 does not drop privileges before opening files, which allows local users to execute arbitrary code via the File>Open dialog.
The bug was discovered 04/17/2006. The weakness was disclosed 05/03/2006 (Website). The advisory is available at vupen.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-2154 since 05/03/2006. The exploitation appears to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
