Details
A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.0.9 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function snd_BUG_ON. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a allocation of resources vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-770. The product allocates a reusable resource or group of resources on behalf of an actor without imposing any restrictions on the size or number of resources that can be allocated, in violation of the intended security policy for that actor. The impact remains unknown. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ALSA: usb-audio: Drop snd_BUG_ON() from snd_usbmidi_output_open() snd_usbmidi_output_open() has a check of the NULL port with snd_BUG_ON(). snd_BUG_ON() was used as this shouldn't have happened, but in reality, the NULL port may be seen when the device gives an invalid endpoint setup at the descriptor, hence the driver skips the allocation. That is, the check itself is valid and snd_BUG_ON() should be dropped from there. Otherwise it's confusing as if it were a real bug, as recently syzbot stumbled on it.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2022-49772 since 04/16/2025. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
