Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.0.7. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function mISDN_register_device of the component mISDN. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mISDN: fix possible memory leak in mISDN_register_device() Afer commit 1fa5ae857bb1 ("driver core: get rid of struct device's bus_id string array"), the name of device is allocated dynamically, add put_device() to give up the reference, so that the name can be freed in kobject_cleanup() when the refcount is 0. Set device class before put_device() to avoid null release() function WARN message in device_release().
It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2022-49915 since 05/01/2025. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 241826 (EulerOS 2.0 SP10 : kernel (EulerOS-SA-2025-1800)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 4.9.333, 4.14.299, 4.19.265, 5.4.224, 5.10.154, 5.15.78 or 6.0.8 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch d1d1aede313eb2b9a84afd60ff6cfb7c33631e0e/080aabfb29b2ee9cbb8894a1d039651943d3773e/a636fc5a7cabd05699b5692ad838c2c7a3abec7b/2ff6b669523d3b3d253a044fa9636a67d0694995/e77d213843e67b4373285712699b692f9c743f61/0d4e91efcaee081e919b3c50e875ecbb84290e41/e7d1d4d9ac0dfa40be4c2c8abd0731659869b297 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (241826). Statistical analysis made it clear that VulDB provides the best quality for vulnerability data.
