Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.1.135/6.6.88/6.12.25/6.14.4/6.15-rc3. This issue affects the function generic_handle_irq of the component pci1xxxx. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: misc: microchip: pci1xxxx: Fix Kernel panic during IRQ handler registration Resolve kernel panic while accessing IRQ handler associated with the generated IRQ. This is done by acquiring the spinlock and storing the current interrupt state before handling the interrupt request using generic_handle_irq. A previous fix patch was submitted where 'generic_handle_irq' was replaced with 'handle_nested_irq'. However, this change also causes the kernel panic where after determining which GPIO triggered the interrupt and attempting to call handle_nested_irq with the mapped IRQ number, leads to a failure in locating the registered handler.
It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2025-37815 since 04/16/2025. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 237504 (Debian dla-4193 : linux-config-6.1 - security update), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 6.1.136, 6.6.89, 6.12.26, 6.14.5 or 6.15-rc4 eliminates this vulnerability.
