Details
A vulnerability has been found in RealNetworks Helix DNA Server 10.0 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a heap-based overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-122. A heap overflow condition is a buffer overflow, where the buffer that can be overwritten is allocated in the heap portion of memory, generally meaning that the buffer was allocated using a routine such as malloc(). As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Heap-based buffer overflow in RealNetworks Helix DNA Server 10.0 and 11.0 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via (1) a long User-Agent HTTP header in the RTSP service and (2) unspecified vectors involving the "parsing of HTTP URL schemes".
The weakness was shared 06/22/2006 by Mu Security with Mu Security research team (Website). The advisory is available at secunia.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-3276 since 06/28/2006. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
