Details
A vulnerability was found in OctoPrint up to 1.11.1. It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a delimiter vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-140. The product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes delimiters. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
OctoPrint versions up until and including 1.11.1 contain a vulnerability that allows any unauthenticated attacker to send a manipulated broken multipart/form-data request to OctoPrint and through that make the web server component become unresponsive. The issue can be triggered by a broken multipart/form-data request lacking an end boundary to any of OctoPrint's endpoints implemented through the octoprint.server.util.tornado.UploadStorageFallbackHandler request handler. The request handler will get stuck in an endless busy loop, looking for a part of the request that will never come. As Tornado is single-threaded, that will effectively block the whole web server. The vulnerability has been patched in version 1.11.2.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2025-48879 since 05/27/2025. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can only be done within the local network. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
