A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in awstats 6.5 1.857 (Log Management Software). This issue affects an unknown code of the file awstats.pl of the component Installation. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. The bug was discovered 04/18/2006. The weakness was published 07/21/2006 (Website). The advisory is shared at xforce.iss.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-3682 since 07/18/2006. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely.
