A vulnerability has been found in libtiff 3.8.1 (Image Processing Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality. Heap-based buffer overflow in the NeXT RLE decoder in the TIFF library (libtiff) before 3.8.2 might allow context-dependent attackers to execute arbitrary code via unknown vectors involving decoding large RLE images.
The bug was discovered 08/01/2006. The weakness was released 08/02/2006 by Tavis Ormandy (iDefense) with Mozilla Corporation (Website). The advisory is shared at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2006-3462 since 07/10/2006. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
