A vulnerability has been found in DeluxeBB 1.08 (Forum Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality of the file pm.php. The manipulation of the argument cookie with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
pm.php (aka the PM system) in DeluxeBB 1.08, and possibly earlier, allows remote attackers to bypass authentication by providing an arbitrary username in the membercookie cookie parameter.
The weakness was disclosed 08/07/2006 by Attila Gerendi (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at secunia.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2006-4078 since 08/10/2006. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
