Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.34/6.15.3. This vulnerability affects the function devm_regulator_bulk_get of the component ASoC. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a double free vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-415. The product calls free() twice on the same memory address, potentially leading to modification of unexpected memory locations. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ASoC: codecs: wcd9375: Fix double free of regulator supplies Driver gets regulator supplies in probe path with devm_regulator_bulk_get(), so should not call regulator_bulk_free() in error and remove paths to avoid double free.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2025-38423 since 04/16/2025. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 01/03/2026).
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 271193 (Ubuntu 24.04 LTS / 25.04 : Linux kernel (Azure) vulnerabilities (USN-7834-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 6.12.35, 6.15.4 or 6.16-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch c8228b5f3d74fd8ad4dfc79d5d601eb6fca5e63e/ce30258c05d39b62a05c99016d7148b3bf60fbdc/63fe298652d4eda07d738bfcbbc59d1343a675ef is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (271193) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-1653). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
