Linux Kernel up to 6.15.3 RAS Header Field allocation of resources

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.15.3. This issue affects an unknown code block of the component RAS Header Field Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a allocation of resources vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-770. The product allocates a reusable resource or group of resources on behalf of an actor without imposing any restrictions on the size or number of resources that can be allocated, in violation of the intended security policy for that actor. The impact remains unknown. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amdgpu: Add basic validation for RAS header If RAS header read from EEPROM is corrupted, it could result in trying to allocate huge memory for reading the records. Add some validation to header fields.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2025-38426 since 04/16/2025. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 253428 (SUSE SLES15 Security Update : kernel (SUSE-SU-2025:02923-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 6.15.4 or 6.16-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch b52f52bc5ba9feb026c0be600f8ac584fd12d187/5df0d6addb7e9b6f71f7162d1253762a5be9138e is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (253428) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-1653). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
