Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in ESVA-Project E-Mail Security Virtual Appliance 2057. It has been classified as critical. Affected is some unknown processing of the file learn-msg.cgi of the component CGI Handler. The manipulation of the argument id with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

The E-Mail Security Virtual Appliance (ESVA) (tested on version ESVA_2057) contains an unauthenticated command injection vulnerability in the learn-msg.cgi script. The CGI handler fails to sanitize user-supplied input passed via the id parameter, allowing attackers to inject arbitrary shell commands. Exploitation requires no authentication and results in full command execution on the underlying system.

The weakness was published by iJoo. The advisory is available at sourceforge.net. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-10046 since 08/08/2025. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details and a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1202 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
