Details
A vulnerability was found in Sysax Multi Server up to 5.54. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code of the component SSH Service. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Sysax Multi Server versions prior to 5.55 contain a stack-based buffer overflow in its SSH service. When a remote attacker supplies an overly long username during authentication, the server copies the input to a fixed-size stack buffer without proper bounds checking. This allows remote code execution under the context of the service.
The weakness was published by Craig Freyman. The advisory is shared at raw.githubusercontent.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2012-10060 since 08/11/2025. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
Upgrading to version 5.55 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Exploit-DB (18535) and EUVD (EUVD-2012-6601). Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
