The cURL extension files (1) ext/curl/interface.c and (2) ext/curl/streams.c in PHP before 5.1.5 permit the CURLOPT_FOLLOWLOCATION option when open_basedir or safe_mode is enabled, which allows attackers to perform unauthorized actions, possibly related to the realpath cache.

The bug was discovered 08/17/2006. The weakness was shared 08/31/2006 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at php.net. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-4483 since 08/31/2006. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 14 days.
