Unspecified vulnerability in Oracle Spatial component in Oracle Database 9.0.1.5, 9.2.0.7, and 10.1.0.5 has unknown impact and remote authenticated attack vectors related to mdsys.md2, aka Vuln# DB03. NOTE: as of 20061023, Oracle has not disputed reports from reliable third parties that DB03 is related to one or more of (1) a buffer overflow in the (a) RELATE function or (2) SQL injection in the (b) TESSELATE_FIXED and (c) TESSELATE function.

The weakness was presented 10/17/2006 by Alexander Kornbrust with Application Security, Inc. (Website). The advisory is shared for download at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-5334 since 10/17/2006. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. The successful exploitation requires a single authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1505.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 56054 (Oracle Database Multiple Vulnerabilities (October 2006 CPU)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Databases. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 19211 (Oracle October 2006 Security Update Multiple Vulnerabilities).

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem.
