Multiple integer overflows in libgd in PHP before 5.2.4 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via a large (1) srcW or (2) srcH value to the (a) gdImageCopyResized function, or a large (3) sy (height) or (4) sx (width) value to the (b) gdImageCreate or the (c) gdImageCreateTrueColor function.
The bug was discovered 08/30/2007. The weakness was disclosed 08/31/2007 by dr. with SecurityReason (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at php.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-3996 since 07/25/2007. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published 4 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
