This issue affects the function pingback.extensions.getPingbacks of the component Pingback Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross-site request forgery vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-352. The web application does not, or can not, sufficiently verify whether a well-formed, valid, consistent request was intentionally provided by the user who submitted the request. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

wp-admin/admin-functions.php in Wordpress before 2.2.3 and Wordpress multi-user (MU) before 1.2.5a does not properly verify the unfiltered_html privilege, which allows remote attackers to conduct cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks via modified data to (1) post.php or (2) page.php with a no_filter field.

The weakness was published 09/12/2007 by Alexander Concha with buayacorp.com (Website). The advisory is shared at buayacorp.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-4893 since 09/14/2007. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
