Details
A vulnerability was found in Apple QuickTime 7.2 (Multimedia Player Software). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown function of the component Sample Table. The manipulation as part of a Sample Descriptor leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Heap-based buffer overflow in Apple QuickTime before 7.3 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via crafted Sample Table Sample Descriptor (STSD) atoms in a movie file.
The bug was discovered 11/05/2007. The weakness was disclosed 11/06/2007 by Tobias Klein with trapkit.de (Website). The advisory is shared at docs.info.apple.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-3750 since 07/12/2007. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
