PostgreSQL up to 18.1 oidvector improper validation of specified type of input

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in PostgreSQL up to 14.20/15.15/16.11/17.7/18.1. It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code of the component oidvector Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a improper validation of specified type of input vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-1287. The product receives input that is expected to be of a certain type, but it does not validate or incorrectly validates that the input is actually of the expected type. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

Improper validation of type "oidvector" in PostgreSQL allows a database user to disclose a few bytes of server memory. We have not ruled out viability of attacks that arrange for presence of confidential information in disclosed bytes, but they seem unlikely. Versions before PostgreSQL 18.2, 17.8, 16.12, 15.16, and 14.21 are affected.

The advisory is shared at postgresql.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-2003 since 02/05/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 298913 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2026-2003), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 14.21, 15.16, 16.12, 17.8 or 18.2 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (298913) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-0409). Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
