Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.10/6.19.0. It has been classified as critical. Affected is the function driver_override_show of the component bus. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bus: fsl-mc: fix use-after-free in driver_override_show() The driver_override_show() function reads the driver_override string without holding the device_lock. However, driver_override_store() uses driver_set_override(), which modifies and frees the string while holding the device_lock. This can result in a concurrent use-after-free if the string is freed by the store function while being read by the show function. Fix this by holding the device_lock around the read operation.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-23221 since 01/13/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 03/19/2026).
