Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.124/6.12.71/6.18.10/6.19.0. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function omap_crypto_copy_sg_lists of the component crypto. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a allocation of resources vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-770. The product allocates a reusable resource or group of resources on behalf of an actor without imposing any restrictions on the size or number of resources that can be allocated, in violation of the intended security policy for that actor. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: crypto: omap - Allocate OMAP_CRYPTO_FORCE_COPY scatterlists correctly The existing allocation of scatterlists in omap_crypto_copy_sg_lists() was allocating an array of scatterlist pointers, not scatterlist objects, resulting in a 4x too small allocation. Use sizeof(*new_sg) to get the correct object size.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-23222 since 01/13/2026. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 299446 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2026-23222), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 6.6.125, 6.12.72, 6.18.11 or 6.19.1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 6edf8df4bd29f7bfd245b67b2c31d905f1cfc14b/c184341920ed78b6466360ed7b45b8922586c38f/2ed27b5a1174351148c3adbfc0cd86d54072ba2e/d1836c628cb72734eb5f7dfd4c996a9c18bba3ad is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (299446) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-0462). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
