Details
A vulnerability was found in Apache HTTP Server 2.x (Web Server). It has been classified as critical. This affects an unknown part of the component HTTP Header Handler. The manipulation of the argument Request Entity with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-79. The product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Apache HTTP Server 2.0.x and 2.2.x does not sanitize the HTTP Method specifier header from an HTTP request when it is reflected back in a "413 Request Entity Too Large" error message, which might allow cross-site scripting (XSS) style attacks using web client components that can send arbitrary headers in requests, as demonstrated via an HTTP request containing an invalid Content-length value, a similar issue to CVE-2006-3918.
The bug was discovered 11/07/2007. The weakness was shared 12/03/2007 by Adrian Pastor Amir Azam with ProCheckUp (Website). The advisory is shared at procheckup.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2007-6203 since 12/03/2007. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details and a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as highly functional. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 26 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.
