A vulnerability was found in phpBB 2.0.20 (Forum Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown code block of the file memberlist.php of the component Error Message Handler. properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
phpBB 2.0.20 does not verify user-specified input variable types before being passed to type-dependent functions, which allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information, as demonstrated by the (1) mode parameter to memberlist.php and the (2) highlight parameter to viewtopic.php that are used as an argument to the htmlspecialchars or urlencode functions, which displays the installation path in the resulting error message.
The weakness was disclosed 02/08/2007 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at marc.theaimsgroup.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-2219 since 05/05/2006. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
By approaching the search of inurl:memberlist.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
Upgrading to version 2.0.20 eliminates this vulnerability.
