A vulnerability was found in phpBB 2.0.20 (Forum Software). It has been classified as problematic. Affected is some unknown processing of the file memberlist.php of the component Error Message Handler. The manipulation of the argument start with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
phpBB 2.0.20 does not properly verify user-specified input variables used as limits to SQL queries, which allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information via a negative LIMIT specification, as demonstrated by the start parameter to memberlist.php, which reveals the SQL query in the resulting error message.
The weakness was presented 02/08/2007 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at marc.theaimsgroup.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2006-2220 since 05/05/2006. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
