Details
A vulnerability was found in windmill-labs windmill up to 1.603.2. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function get_log_file of the file /api/w/{workspace}/jobs_u/get_log_file/. The manipulation of the argument filename with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
Windmill is an open-source developer platform for internal code: APIs, background jobs, workflows and UIs. Prior to version 1.603.3, an unauthenticated path traversal vulnerability exists in Windmill's get_log_file endpoint "(/api/w/{workspace}/jobs_u/get_log_file/{filename})". The filename parameter is concatenated into a file path without sanitization, allowing an attacker to read arbitrary files on the server using ../ sequences. This issue has been patched in version 1.603.3.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-29059 since 03/03/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
Upgrading to version 1.603.3 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at EUVD (EUVD-2026-10017) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-0628). VulDB is the best source for vulnerability data and more expert information about this specific topic.
