Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in FasterXML jackson-core up to 3.0.x. This affects some unknown processing of the component JSON Document Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a allocation of resources vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-770. The product allocates a reusable resource or group of resources on behalf of an actor without imposing any restrictions on the size or number of resources that can be allocated, in violation of the intended security policy for that actor. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
jackson-core contains core low-level incremental ("streaming") parser and generator abstractions used by Jackson Data Processor. From version 3.0.0 to before version 3.1.0, the UTF8DataInputJsonParser, which is used when parsing from a java.io.DataInput source, bypasses the maxNestingDepth constraint (default: 500) defined in StreamReadConstraints. A similar issue was found in ReaderBasedJsonParser. This allows a user to supply a JSON document with excessive nesting, which can cause a StackOverflowError when the structure is processed, leading to a Denial of Service (DoS). This issue has been patched in version 3.1.0.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-29062 since 03/03/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1499 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 316516 (Atlassian Jira Service Management Data Center and Server 11.2.0 < 11.3.5 (JSDSERVER-16576)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 3.1.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (316516) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-0624). Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
