Sequelize up to 6.37.7 _traverseJSON sql injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability was found in Sequelize up to 6.37.7 and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function _traverseJSON. Such manipulation leads to sql injection. This vulnerability is documented as CVE-2026-30951. The attack can be executed remotely. There is not any exploit available. It is suggested to upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Sequelize up to 6.37.7 and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function _traverseJSON. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Sequelize is a Node.js ORM tool. Prior to 6.37.8, there is SQL injection via unescaped cast type in JSON/JSONB where clause processing. The _traverseJSON() function splits JSON path keys on :: to extract a cast type, which is interpolated raw into CAST(... AS <type>) SQL. An attacker who controls JSON object keys can inject arbitrary SQL and exfiltrate data from any table. This vulnerability is fixed in 6.37.8.

The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-30951 since 03/07/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1505 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 301792 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2026-30951), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 6.37.8 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (301792) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-1160). If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
