A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Microsoft DirectX 7.0/8.1/9.0c/10.0. This issue affects an unknown part of the component WAV/AVI Media File Handler. The bug was discovered 12/11/2007. The weakness was presented 12/11/2007 by Peter Winter-Smith with NGSSoftware as MS07-064 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). It is possible to read the advisory at microsoft.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-3895 since 07/19/2007. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 29308 (MS07-064: Vulnerabilities in DirectX Could Allow Remote Code Execution (941568)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
