A vulnerability was found in parse-community parse-server up to 8.6.54/9.6.0-alpha.43 and classified as problematic. This issue affects some unknown processing of the component HTTP Request Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a recursion vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-674. The product does not properly control the amount of recursion that takes place, consuming excessive resources, such as allocated memory or the program stack. Impacted is availability. Parse Server is an open source backend that can be deployed to any infrastructure that can run Node.js. Prior to versions 8.6.55 and 9.6.0-alpha.44, an attacker can send an unauthenticated HTTP request with a deeply nested query containing logical operators to permanently hang the Parse Server process. The server becomes completely unresponsive and must be manually restarted. This is a bypass of the fix for CVE-2026-32944. This issue has been patched in versions 8.6.55 and 9.6.0-alpha.44.
The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-33498 since 03/20/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. Upgrading to version 8.6.55 or 9.6.0-alpha.44 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 2581b5426047ce9cbcd3d9c0e8379e9c30e23ab5 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
