A vulnerability was found in PHP 4.4.6/5.2.3 (Programming Language Software). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function snmpget. The manipulation of the argument third with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Buffer overflow in the snmpget function in the snmp extension in PHP 5.2.3 and earlier, including PHP 4.4.6 and probably other PHP 4 versions, allows context-dependent attackers to execute arbitrary code via a long value in the third argument (object id).
The weakness was disclosed 03/12/2007 by rgod (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at milw0rm.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-1413 since 03/12/2007. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k.
