A vulnerability has been found in GFI HelpDesk up to 4.99.8 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function SWIFT_Language::Create of the component Languages Page. The manipulation of the argument charset with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-79. The product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. CVE summarizes:
GFI HelpDesk before 4.99.9 contains a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability in the language management functionality where the charset POST parameter is passed directly to SWIFT_Language::Create() without HTML sanitization and subsequently rendered unsanitized by View_Language.RenderGrid(). An authenticated administrator can inject arbitrary JavaScript through the charset field when creating or editing a language, and the payload executes in the browser of any administrator viewing the Languages page.
The weakness was presented by Alex Williams. The advisory is shared for download at gfi.ai. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-23753 since 01/15/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are necessary for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
Upgrading to version 4.99.9 eliminates this vulnerability.
