A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, was found in IBM Lotus Domino up to 6.5.5 (Groupware Software). Affected is an unknown code of the file nimap.exe of the component Authentication Mechanism. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability (EasyBee). CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Buffer overflow in the CRAM-MD5 authentication mechanism in the IMAP server (nimap.exe) in IBM Lotus Domino before 6.5.6 and 7.x before 7.0.2 FP1 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service via a long username.
The weakness was released 03/28/2007 with iDEFENSE (Website). The advisory is available at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2007-1675 since 03/24/2007. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Upgrading to version 6.5.6 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 4033.
