Details
A vulnerability was found in radareorg radare2 up to 6.1.3. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function print_gvars of the component PDB Parser. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
radare2 prior to 6.1.4 contains a command injection vulnerability in the PDB parser's print_gvars() function that allows attackers to execute arbitrary commands by crafting a malicious PDB file with newline characters in symbol names. Attackers can inject arbitrary radare2 commands through unsanitized symbol name interpolation in the flag rename command, which are then executed when a user runs the idp command against the malicious PDB file, enabling arbitrary OS command execution through radare2's shell execution operator.
The weakness was presented by Jun Rong as 25730. The advisory is shared for download at blog.calif.io. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-40517 since 04/13/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
