A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in WF-Sections 1.0.1. This affects the function getarticle of the file class/wfsarticle.php. The manipulation of the argument articleid with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. SQL injection vulnerability in the getArticle function in class/wfsarticle.php in WF-Section (aka WF-Sections) 1.0.1, as used in Xoops modules such as (1) Zmagazine 1.0, (2) Happy Linux XFsection 1.07 and earlier, and possibly other modules, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the articleid parameter to print.php.
The weakness was disclosed 04/02/2007 by ajann (Website). The advisory is shared at xoops.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2007-1974 since 04/11/2007. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details and a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1505 for this issue.
The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:class/wfsarticle.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 24908 (XOOPS WF-Section Module print.php articleid Parameter SQL Injection), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses.
