Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Redis up to 8.6.2. This affects an unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a heap-based overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-122. A heap overflow condition is a buffer overflow, where the buffer that can be overwritten is allocated in the heap portion of memory, generally meaning that the buffer was allocated using a routine such as malloc(). This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Redis is an in-memory data structure store. In versions of redis-server up to 8.6.3, the RESTORE command does not properly validate serialized values. An authenticated attacker with permission to execute RESTORE can supply a crafted serialized payload that triggers invalid memory access and may lead to remote code execution. A workaround is to restrict access to the RESTORE command with ACL rules. This is patched in version 8.6.3.
It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-25243 since 01/30/2026. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
