Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.1.166/6.6.129/6.12.77/6.18.18/6.19.8. Affected by this vulnerability is the function netif_rx of the component mctp. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mctp: i2c: fix skb memory leak in receive path When 'midev->allow_rx' is false, the newly allocated skb isn't consumed by netif_rx(), it needs to free the skb directly.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-43457 since 05/01/2026. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 329305 (openSUSE 16: cluster-md-kmp-64kb / cluster-md-kmp-azure / cluster-md-kmp-default / etc (openSUSE-SU-2026:21388-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 6.1.167, 6.6.130, 6.12.78, 6.18.19 or 6.19.9 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 0fb2adbdd5c03e8c9ebcdc48afd414b2724c85eb/d7900a43b0a314a645ca0a2adf45928dbc7001f4/9f81be2ab9d8e4744871bfb3e868ef413413829f/1ec54187e1aa40a4cfa2b265e9a311179f24b98d/1b1be322342a6b0085bf6ee52235e5ac9834ec25/e3f5e0f22cfc2371e7471c9fd5b4da78f9df7c69 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (329305). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
