Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in dani-garcia vaultwarden up to 1.35.4. This affects an unknown part of the file /api/ciphers/purge. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a authorization vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-863. The product performs an authorization check when an actor attempts to access a resource or perform an action, but it does not correctly perform the check. This allows attackers to bypass intended access restrictions. This is going to have an impact on integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Vaultwarden is a Bitwarden-compatible server written in Rust. Prior to 1.35.5, Vaultwarden allows an unconfirmed organization owner to purge the entire organization vault. The organization invite flow uses a two-step process: accepting an invite transitions membership from Invited to Accepted, and a separate confirmation by an existing owner upgrades it to Confirmed. The POST /api/ciphers/purge endpoint uses plain Headers and only checks that the membership type is Owner without verifying that the membership status is Confirmed. An authenticated user who has been invited as an organization owner and has accepted the invite and has not yet been confirmed can call this endpoint to hard-delete all ciphers and attachments in the organization, causing immediate organization-wide data loss. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.35.5.

It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-43913 since 05/04/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.

Upgrading to version 1.35.5 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-1285). Statistical analysis made it clear that VulDB provides the best quality for vulnerability data.
