CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability was found in barebox up to 2026.04.0 and classified as problematic. Impacted is an unknown function of the file /fs/ext4/ext4_common.c of the component ext4 Handler. Executing a manipulation of the argument eh_entries can lead to out-of-bounds. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-34961. The attack can only be executed locally. There is no exploit available. It is suggested to upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in barebox up to 2026.04.0 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the file /fs/ext4/ext4_common.c of the component ext4 Handler. The manipulation of the argument eh_entries with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:

barebox prior to version 2026.04.0 contains out-of-bounds read vulnerabilities in ext4 extent parsing due to missing validation of the eh_entries field against buffer capacity in fs/ext4/ext4_common.c. Attackers can supply a malicious ext4 filesystem image via USB, SD card, or network boot to trigger heap out-of-bounds reads during boot-time filesystem parsing, potentially redirecting reads to arbitrary disk offsets.

The weakness was shared by Kazuma Matsumoto. The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-34961 since 03/31/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 2026.04.0 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at github.com.
