Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in open-webui Open WebUI up to 0.8.x. This issue affects the function Connection.bind of the component LDAP Authentication Endpoint. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a improper authentication vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-287. When an actor claims to have a given identity, the product does not prove or insufficiently proves that the claim is correct. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Open WebUI is a self-hosted artificial intelligence platform designed to operate entirely offline. Prior to 0.9.0, the LDAP authentication endpoint does not validate that the submitted password is non-empty before performing a Simple Bind against the LDAP server. The LdapForm Pydantic model accepts password: str with no minimum length constraint, so an empty string passes validation. The subsequent Connection.bind() call succeeds on vulnerable LDAP servers, and the application issues a full session token for the target user. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.9.0.
It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-44551 since 05/06/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
Upgrading to version 0.9.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
