Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, has been found in GNU Flash Player 0.7.2. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the file sprite_definition.cpp. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
server/parser/sprite_definition.cpp in GNU Gnash (aka GNU Flash Player) 0.7.2 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a large number of SHOWFRAME elements within a DEFINESPRITE element, which triggers memory corruption and enables the attacker to call free with an arbitrary address, probably resultant from a buffer overflow.
The weakness was published 05/02/2007 by Trixter Jack (Website). The advisory is shared at vupen.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-2500 since 05/03/2007. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 07/14/2021).
