CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.139/6.12.85/6.18.26/7.0.3 and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function spdif_passthru_playback_get_resources of the component ALSA. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a infinite loop vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-835. The product contains an iteration or loop with an exit condition that cannot be reached, i.e., an infinite loop. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ALSA: ctxfi: Add fallback to default RSR for S/PDIF spdif_passthru_playback_get_resources() uses atc->pll_rate as the RSR for the MSR calculation loop. However, pll_rate is only updated in atc_pll_init() and not in hw_pll_init(), so it remains 0 after the card init. When spdif_passthru_playback_setup() skips atc_pll_init() for 32000 Hz, (rsr * desc.msr) always becomes 0, causing the loop to spin indefinitely. Add fallback to use atc->rsr when atc->pll_rate is 0. This reflects the hardware state, since hw_card_init() already configures the PLL to the default RSR.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-46049 since 05/13/2026. The exploitation is known to be difficult. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 6.6.140, 6.12.86, 6.18.27, 7.0.4 or 7.1-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 25ded535ee261161bcf19dafd525c542e606559d/30f9494c6f2b53a78822cfb653ffbb1d092d44c8/09496158f6ebba8830593f8972035c02f97124c1/95b1ee8442cabbde83b2848e7c6100df90f3a00d/7d61662197ecdc458e33e475b6ada7f6da61d364 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
