A vulnerability was found in MusicPlayerDaemon MPD up to 0.24.10. It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is the function xspf_char_data of the component MPD Protocol. The manipulation of the argument location with an unknown input leads to a crlf injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-93. The product uses CRLF (carriage return line feeds) as a special element, e.g. to separate lines or records, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes CRLF sequences from inputs. Music Player Daemon (MPD) before version 0.24.11 contains a CRLF injection vulnerability in the xspf_char_data function within the XSPF playlist plugin that allows attackers to embed literal CR/LF bytes in URI fields by supplying a malicious XSPF playlist with XML numeric character references. Attackers can inject forged key-value lines through the location field into MPD protocol responses including playlistinfo, currentsong, and listplaylist outputs, as well as the state file writer, by exploiting Expat's decoding of numeric character references prior to the character data callback.
The weakness was presented by Matteo Strada and Daniele Berardinelli as 2483. It is possible to read the advisory at musicpd.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-49130 since 05/27/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
Upgrading to version 0.24.11 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at github.com. Applying the patch 855085b35c67dddeef0652e2cb3ac8cdd4f457b7 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
