Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Apache Tomcat up to 4.0.0 (Application Server Software). This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the file appdev/sample/web/hello.jsp. The manipulation of the argument test with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. CVE summarizes:
Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in the appdev/sample/web/hello.jsp example application in Tomcat 4.0.0 through 4.0.6, 4.1.0 through 4.1.36, 5.0.0 through 5.0.30, 5.5.0 through 5.5.23, and 6.0.0 through 6.0.10 allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the test parameter and unspecified vectors.
The weakness was disclosed 05/19/2007 by Ferruh Mavituna (Website). The advisory is shared for download at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2007-1355 since 03/08/2007. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
