A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel 2.6.25/2.6.25.1/2.6.25.2 (Operating System). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function sys_utimensat. Memory leak in the ipip6_rcv function in net/ipv6/sit.c in the Linux kernel 2.4 before 2.4.36.5 and 2.6 before 2.6.25.3 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) via network traffic to a Simple Internet Transition (SIT) tunnel interface, related to the pskb_may_pull and kfree_skb functions, and management of an skb reference count.
The issue has been introduced in 04/17/2008. The weakness was released 05/15/2008 by Paul Marks with Kernel.org (Website). The advisory is available at kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2008-2136 since 05/12/2008. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
