A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in PHP (Programming Language Software). This affects the function readfile. PHP 5 before 5.2.3 does not enforce the open_basedir or safe_mode restriction in certain cases, which allows context-dependent attackers to determine the existence of arbitrary files by checking if the readfile function returns a string. NOTE: this issue might also involve the realpath function.
The bug was discovered 05/24/2007. The weakness was released 06/01/2007 (Website). The advisory is shared at redhat.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2007-3007 since 06/04/2007.
