Mozilla Firefox up to 0.10.1 memory corruption

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

This vulnerability is identified as CVE-2007-3089. There is not any exploit available. Upgrading the affected component is recommended.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Mozilla Firefox (Web Browser). This affects an unknown code block. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on integrity. The summary by CVE is:

Mozilla Firefox before 2.0.0.5 does not prevent use of document.write to replace an IFRAME (1) during the load stage or (2) in the case of an about:blank frame, which allows remote attackers to display arbitrary HTML or execute certain JavaScript code, as demonstrated by code that intercepts keystroke values from window.event, aka the "promiscuous IFRAME access bug," a related issue to CVE-2006-4568.

The bug was discovered 05/30/2007. The weakness was released 06/05/2007 by Michal Zalewski (Website). The advisory is shared at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2007-3089 since 06/06/2007. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 6 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 67547 (Oracle Linux 4 : thunderbird (ELSA-2007-0723)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Oracle Linux Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 156071 (Oracle Enterprise Linux Update for SeaMonkey (ELSA-2007-0722)).

Upgrading to version 1.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 2 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (34703), Tenable (67547), SecurityFocus (BID 24286†), OSVDB (38024†) and Secunia (SA26095†). Entries connected to this vulnerability are available at VDB-3173, VDB-37883, VDB-37882 and VDB-37881. Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
